Free CCSE practice test with official questions

If you are applying for Spanish citizenship by residence, you will have to pass the CCSE, the test of constitutional and sociocultural knowledge of Spain run by the Instituto Cervantes. On this page you can take a free CCSE practice test built on the official questions, with explanations in English and no account required.

What is the CCSE?

The CCSE (prueba de Conocimientos Constitucionales y Socioculturales de España) is a multiple-choice test about the Spanish Constitution, institutions, geography, culture and everyday life. Foreigners applying for nationality by residence must pass it. The exceptions are people under 18, people whose legal capacity has been modified by a court, and those who completed compulsory secondary education (ESO) in Spain. Coming from a Spanish-speaking country does not exempt you from the CCSE; it only exempts you from the DELE A2 language exam.

Every exam question comes from a public bank of 300 questions published by the Instituto Cervantes in the CCSE 2026 preparation manual. That is why practising with the real questions makes far more sense than using invented ones.

Why study in your own language?

The exam is always in Spanish. But understanding why an answer is right is much easier when the explanation is in a language you are comfortable with. On "CCSE en tu idioma" each of the 300 questions has an explanation in English (and in Spanish, Arabic, French, Romanian, Chinese and Ukrainian). The question itself always stays in Spanish, exactly as you will see it on exam day, so you get used to the key words. You can also listen to each question read aloud.

What you get for free

  • 25 official questions with explanations, no sign-up.
  • 1 full mock exam: 25 questions in 45 minutes with a final score, just like the real test.

If you want the full bank later (practice by topic, mock exams, spaced review of your mistakes and saved progress), full access is a one-off payment of 9.99 EUR for 90 days. If you fail the exam after using the app, we refund the 9.99 EUR.

FAQ

Are these the same questions as in the real exam? Yes. We use the questions from the official 2026 manual of the Instituto Cervantes, which is where the 25 exam questions come from.

Do I need to register to practise for free? No. The 25 free questions and the first mock exam work without an account. You only need an email address if you want to save your progress.

Can I take the exam in English? No. The official exam is always in Spanish. What you can do in English is study the explanations. If you cannot read or write, there is an adapted version where the questions are read aloud; you must request it when you register.

Is it hard to pass? More than 98% of candidates pass the standard test. You only need 15 out of 25, so preparing with the official bank gives you an excellent chance.
